PROJECT:
FUTURE MOBILITY SYSTEM

ROYAL COLLEGE OF ART/MOOVEL LAB (GERMANY)

THE CHALLENGE
While studying at the RCA we were provoked with a series of Service Design projects, applying different methodologies from Double Diamond, Stakeholder and System Maps to Design Thinking, Persona creations and Matrix of Power. The "Future Speculative Mobility" project, for instance, was our first challenge.
THE PROCESS
We chose to explore how the mobility system could be in the year 2040, in the city of London.
To propose a way to increase transport efficiency.
I brought some literature from authors like Kevin Kelly, reports from IDEO, Delloite and other futurists to came up with what a future mobility scenario might look like, as well as the different needs and wishes from personas.
We, then, understood the needs of both users and new transport service providers alternatives to develop a new mobility system.
MY ROLE: STRATEGIC SERVICE DESIGNER (TRENDS AND SYSTEMS ANALYSIS, INTERVIEWS, JOURNEY MAPS, DESK RESEARCH)
OUTCOMES
We had great responses from both the professors as well as experts from the Automotive industry and also been released at the RCA WIP 2018 show:
"A very powerful and effective piece of work and an excellent and advanced way of thinking. Good analysis of existing surveys and reports and this led to a clear set of themes and a clear mission statement. Very good feedback of course on CityMapper, Google, Apple Maps or Waze. Excellent work as a team!"
— Marta de Sá & Carolyn Runcie, RCA
"It’s not about service aggregation - collecting all available info in your phone and doing optimisation locally. You should keep the optimisation in the cloud and build a platform which asks necessary questions about your preferences and needs.”
